Imagine for a moment you know this really great person.

Now, imagine you're having this great conversation and something is mentioned, and you're sort of like "YAY! I have an inside joke with this person!" and then you're really happy because, let's face it, who doesn't like to have inside jokes. Especially with really awesome people.

OK, several months pass and you still occasionally get a private giggle out of this inside joke. It's not something you and the other person talk about unless it's in code, but it's there.

Then imagine doing some really mundane task and not thinking about anything in particular, just going through the files of your mind, and your brain hits upon this inside joke. While you're sitting there having another private giggle, you suddenly realize that the joke had nothing to do with you in the first place! You totally took what was said out of context. It's not that anyone said "You moron, that joke didn't have anything to do with us! I was talking about someone else all together." It's just one of those things that dawns on you when you look at the whole picture. Not only that, but you realize that when you take what was said IN context, it was not only unfunny, but would have completely disappointed you and pissed you off in the first place.

Then imagine being embarrassed, just like me. *groan!* :) It's out of complete shame that I am not going to specify, just know I'm feeling really stupid right now.

Oh, and OT: By the way, congratulations.

Very amusing. I can't say that I've ever had that experience, but I can IMAGINE having it with your descriptive post.
